[Preface - I tried to extricate myself from the situation of “living in cultural difference” which our society predominantly suffers. Due to the growing feeling of difference among each other, there is acute fear of division among us. Amid those differences, author is optimistic of – “realm of hope of life living in prosperity and unity”. With this article author tried to express the experience of difference he encountered in his life.]
Besides ravages caused by drought, flood, war, our place has been ravaged more by the thought of difference. I am feared of living in the society of religious intolerance where people disregard each other cultural and religious belief, thus sacrificing harmony among them and inviting latency to ethnic tension. It puzzled me to look at the prominent danger we and our coming generation will be inheriting – “A society molding in difference”.
Our society has strayed far from the way of living in ecstasy and our coming generation is at the stake of losing the bliss of togetherness, where boundaries of difference among each other have raised high, where peeping at each other have made impossible since the feelings of enmity have been ruling the facet of our living.
Our society is held hostage by the enduring lunatic belief “difference” which is scrambling the ravishing “moral and intrinsic” value inherited in our culture and traditions. The outcome to this is what many of us endure today is nasty and brutish life where we are living isolated, wretched as a solidarity figure on the horizon where we bind and limit ourselves to what we have and divide perilously by distracting our cultural values as different and much different from other’s where any reconciliation between each other culture is made far from rescue.
This hostage ordeal has to come to end; we need to storm the isolated belief. I dream to witness the extraordinary spectacle of our society rescuing us from the perilous division and sheltering our future under one umbrella, under one common belief chanting the values that is immersed into each other’s culture that is “love peace and prosperity”.
Is there is difference in religion? - I went to church, went to mosque and temple and went to different worshiping place with curiosity to notice and learn the way people pray and follow their faith. But does it really matter how they pray and where they go to pray? When I asked them - for what they pray, there was absolutely no difference.
Where we pray is the symbol of hope and faith. How we pray is our eternal way of expressing faith, hope and love. No matter what religion we follow every one hate crime, curse sin and want to adore peace.
Difference in Language - Various ways of saying same thing “Hello” – Jambo in Swahili, mambo in Congo, kumusta ka in Philippine(Tagalog), Tansi in Cree, bonjour in French, aloha in Hawaiian, moin moin in Northern Germany, halo in Spanish, adaab ir salam in Urdu. All are different name and different ways for expressing the same purpose.
Language doesn’t have any nationality; it has humanity; it brings people together making us easier to express ourselves. Similarly, All religion has human touch, all works to bring us together thrives us to follow certain ideology to work for common purpose, for our goodwill and prosperity.
Are different People of different Places are really different? - No people and place are same. There are varieties of different culture and traditions people follow around the world. People from different place inheriting different culture and tradition may be different; the way people live their life and do things may also be different, but besides all those difference there is common purpose in our living and all of us are driven by the same cause and by the purpose – “health, love and prosperity”.
It’s true that we all are living in difference; I started loving “difference” and “difference” was no more different when I noticed the similarities in the fundamental values it inherent.
Changes I felt when I flew away from my country - I felt wide change in the people and culture when I went abroad (place not disclosed). As I boarded a plane, things start changing. Country changed, time changed, climate changed, culture and tradition changed, and so communicating language changed, so the religion people follow changed, color of face changed, but in the midst of so many changes something still remain same.
When I landed abroad people over there cared me and wished for my pleasant stay in their country, they guided me well. They treated me gracefully as their distinguished guests and greeted me with a humble smile and gratitude.
Things and looks can change but not the values. For the first time it was strange for me to learn people of countries miles away from my country living in lots of similarities. Here also people love their children, send them to school for better education. People go for job earn money, save every penny, pray god for peace and prosperity.
They also wake up with the rise of sun, love the rain, and elegantly decorate their places with beautiful flowers. They go on vacation, meet friends and relatives, and giggle. Here also children play and shout in excitement, quarrel and again mingle. Here also newly born baby is welcomed with joyfulness, sweets distribution and celebration. Here also the first thing most of the new born baby witness is the atmosphere of celebration. Here also everybody keeps pinching baby to witness honest and innocent smile in his glittering eyes.
We all are born with hope in our eyes. Who don’t dream for better education, health, wealth and long term prosperity?
Though place was new to me but not the values embedded in living. As I understood that difference is no more different, sooner after landing to destination, I embraced all those changes and difference.
I traveled to adore change – Since my childhood I love to travel and during my summer vacation my dad used to take whole family to new places. “Wow, my page is full, this place has so many new things to share with us”, I screamed in exhalation when I was asked to write an essay about my experience with new place I visited in summer vacation. Before every trip to new place, my dad used to ask me to know its demography, its culture, livelihood and major attractions which it has to offer us. After the trip I had to write an essay about my experience during the trip. This sometime makes my vacation very hectic; but now it is something which is still preserved as a symbol of my childhood. Now when I go through those diaries I get thrilled and amazed to know the fun I had in new place with new people.
Conclusion – There is no conclusion to the road of prosperity because we are driven by the hope. We can break the rising wall of difference if we search and peep at each other and find the commonalties among us. We should educate people to halt the extremist who kept ranting against our values and promote the difference at the cost of prosperity and unity.
Let’s imprison the difference, let’s expel the extremist who incite our society rebelling against our goodwill. Amid those differences, let’s be optimistic of - realm of hope of life living in love, peace, prosperity and unity.
